Pokemon GO Getting Third Generation Pokemon, New Weather Based Mechanics

Ice Types for the next few months, then.

Posted By | On 06th, Dec. 2017

Pokemon from Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, the fan favorite third installment in the long running series, are now being added to Niantic’s perennially popular Pokemon GO game for iOS and Android. 50 Pokemon from the Hoenn region, including Torchic, Treecko, Mudkip, and Absol, will be added to the game.

The third generation of Pokemon is important for the emphasis it placed on weather as an in game mechanic- which is something that continues to this day, incidentally. Weather mechanics are coming to Pokemon GO, too, as the appearance of Pokemon in the game will now be affected by the real world weather for that region. Which means that for the next five months, we should resign ourselves to only seeing Ice type Pokemon, folks (unless you live in the Southern hemisphere, in which case, Grass and Fire types ahoy!).

Pokemon GO launched last year, and is available on iOS and Android.
