Pokemon GO Surges On The Back Of Generation 2 Pokemon Update

Gotcha! Cyndaquil was caught!

Recently, Pokemon GO got updated at last to include Johto Pokemon- 80 new Pokemon from the superlative Pokemon Gold/Silver, still widely held to be the best games in the series. Apparently, the introduction of these new fan favorite Pokemon has been enough to cause a surge in Pokemon GO‘s popularity.

In the wake of the update, the game is now once again on the top of the iOS charts, and has become the number one highest grossing game in the U.S.. On Android, it’s re-entered the top three, though Game of War and Mobile Strike are still ahead.

Whether or not Niantic can sustain this level of interest this time around is something that remains to be seen- while Pokemon GO continues to do well, the hysteria around it has died down a bit, which the new update seems to have sparked back up a little bit. The first time around, Niantic were unprepared to deal with the game’s sheer popularity- may they do better this time around.
