At the recent Nintendo Direct, it was revealed that not only can Pokemon X & Y players choose new starter Pokemon with Chespin, Froakie and Fennekin but they’ll be able to choose the classic trio of Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle on beginning their quest. The three Pokemon are perhaps some of the most iconic next to Pikachu and debuted in the very first Pokemon games, Red and Blue.

Game Freak’s Junichi Masuda also stated that all three of the classic Pokemon would have their own Mega Evolutions – high powered super forms that can activated for a brief time with special items. So yes, we will be getting Mega Venusaur, Mega Charizard and Mega Blastoise.

Pokemon X & Y takes place in a brand new region, Kalos, and will be the first game in the series to have fully 3D-rendered graphics. It will also have new mechanics for caring for Pokemon, among other things. Look out for its release on 3DS on October 12th worldwide.
