Pokken

We totally called this one, didn’t we?

The Tekken inspired 3D fighter starring Pokemon characters, Pokken Tournament, is already available in arcades, but it will soon be available to the entire Wii U audience to enjoy- the game is coming to Nintendo’s home console in Spring next year, The Pokemon Company announced at the Pokemon World Championships today.

Pokken Tournament takes its mechanical inspirations from Tekken series. That said, the game is designed with both new players and Pokemon fans in mind, which is something that should help it extend its audience across multiple fanbases.

Pokken Tournament should also help Nintendo get its hooks into the traditional fighting game audience, with its more standard fighting game rules, compared to Nintendo’s own Smash Bros.

Pokken Tournament is also right now the only Wii U game officially announced for 2016, apart from The Legend of Zelda (tentatively), and the Shin Megami Tensei/Fire Emblem crossover.

We will have more for you on it as it comes. Stay tuned.
