Dishonored 2 was a great game, but it lost significant cachet and goodwill with the PC gaming community thanks to the PC version being a bit… busted. It was plagued by a series of issues, and though Arkane responded right away, apologized, and attempted to be transparent, the damage had been done.
You can imagine that some people are a bit more wary of Arkane’s upcoming Prey for those reasons- however, in a recent interview, Arkane’s president Raphael Colantonio has stated that the PC version of Prey will not suffer like the PC version of Dishonored 2 did.
“The real reason why PC games often have problems is because there are so many permutations of hardware, sometimes it’s timing – drivers come out the same time as our game. Something happens that makes it more challenging.
“This time we are, given what happened with Dishonored 2, we doubled our thoroughness in making sure that the game is going to run smoothly. At this point, the game is fully ready, but that’s what we’ve been doing for the past months–a lot of tests on different configurations and making sure it works. So we’re pretty confident. You never know. But we’re pretty confident.”
It’s good to see them acknowledge their mistakes, and to promise being better prepared this time. Hopefully the launch of Prey goes smoothly for them, on PC and on all platforms. Prey will launch on May 5 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
