Ubisoft took many of us by surprise with the announcement of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown at the recent Summer Game Fest showcase, and more recently, at its own Ubisoft Forward event, offered a meatier look at its gameplay, story, and setting. As a 2D sidescrolling action-platformer, The Lost Crown is, of course, going back to the roots of the franchise, though in many ways, it’s also doing things the series has never done in the past. In a new video, the game’s development team at Ubisoft Montpellier discusses just that.

As the team behind the Rayman games, Ubisoft Montpellier does, of course, have plenty of expertise when it comes to 2D platformers, and we will be seeing that expertise brought into Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown when it comes to its platforming mechanics, combat, puzzles, and more.

At the same time, however, the developers are also promising a game that, while reinventing the franchise, will also be true to its core- which we can see in everything from its slick, fast traversal mechanics to its decidedly flashy time-manipulation abilities. Check out the video below for more details.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown will launch on January 18, 2024 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It will run at 60 FPS on all platforms.
