PS Vita sold 66k units in its launch month in France

France is one of the largest markets in Europe, and since the continent is Sony’s strong area for sales, it seems that the Vita has severely underperformed in its launch month.

It sold 66k units according to Les Echos, and when you compare it to the PSP’s sales which sold 80k units in the launch week, Sony should be worried about Vita’s future.

The reasoning for this botched launch was the high price, competition from smartphones and tablets, and the lack of proper software. I personally believe the launch titles are great, but it simply isn’t enough for people to invest in the Vita.

The 3DS sold 100k units in its launch month, and has sold 874k units in 12 months at an average of 72k units per month. Now that doesn’t seem a lot but the 3DS had exploded during the holidays and it remains to be seen how the Vita performs.

117k of software were sold, which isn’t a lot but then again, the hardware install base is quite low for now.
