PS2 production has been halted worldwide

King of consoles.

We reported earlier how Sony had stopped sending shipments of PS2 to Japan, which indicates that they have officially stopped supporting the system.

According to The Guardian, it seems Sony has done the same worldwide as the shipments in various countries have been stopped. Flipkart, an Indian online retailer, had earlier discontinued the system but had to revert back due to a lot of questions, but it looks like they got the memo long time back.

The console has sold 150 million units so far, and in developing countries like India, the figure is reported to be approx. 6 million. This news comes at a time where Sony is preparing to unveil the PS3’s successor this year, and will be possibly releasing it this year as well.

The next-generation will bring a lot of interesting things to the industry and it does not look like any console will be replicating PS2’s success.

The PS2 has also surpassed 1.5 billion units in software sales. Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
