PS3 update prevents HDD upgrade

Posted By | On 01st, Feb. 2011

With the recent release of PS3 firmware version 3.56 many users are complaining that they are experiencing problems while trying to upgrade the console’s hard disk drive.

The following models are supposedly affected by this issue:

Original PS3s:
CECHH
CECHJ
CECHK
CECHL
CECHM
CECHP
CECHQ

Slim PS3s:
CECH-20..A
CECH-20..B
CECH-21..A
CECH-21..B
CECH-250.A
CECH-250.B
CECH-250.A
CECH-250.B
CECH-251.A
CECH-251.B

The update was apparently meant to patch the various security issues that the PS3 has been experiencing as of late. Supposedly though the firmware has already been cracked by hackers and, with this potential blow to legitimate consumers wanting to upgrade their PS3’s hard drive, it would seem that the recent update hasn’t been the success story that Sony were hoping for.

Thanks to CVG for the info.
