Sony has been a regular at Gamescom, a popular games expo that takes place every year in Cologne, Germany. However unlike previous years Sony decided to skip the show and not conduct their usual press conference. Although some PS4 games were present during the show, the event was dominated by Microsoft’s string of announcements for Xbox One and Windows 10.

So is this a worrying sign for Sony? The PS4 is leading the current gen console race so obviously there is nothing to worry about but one would have expected Sony to further stamp their authority. GamingBolt recently caught up with India’s PlayStation boss, Atindriya Bose and asked him about his thoughts on Sony’s absence during Europe’s premium games show.

“There is nothing to read into it. We had a very good E3, an excellent one in fact. This is all about how everyone phases out the announcements. So I won’t be reading too much on why we missed out on Gamescom and these are strategies that are developed by the European head and the SCEI so it’s a bit difficult to comment on that,” Bose stated to GamingBolt.

Bose definitely has a valid point here. Sony’s E3 2015 press conference was nothing short of historic with games after games being announced for the PS4. Announcing Shenmue 3, The Last Guardian and Final Fantasy 7 along with new IPs such as Horizon Zero Dawn in a single show could be overwhelming.

Bose further reiterated that gamers should not “not read too much about it” as “these are very cogent strategies that are created there.”

It’s important to note that Bose’s comments are from an Indian market perspective, however in my opinion he has a valid comment that may apply to every PS4 owner out there. Sony is on a roll and have been doing a lot of things right and having another press conference hot on the heels of E3 and PlayStation experience would have made less sense.

Regardless, Sony will be showing up at the Paris Games Week and then later on during the PlayStation Experience where hopefully they will be showing more of their upcoming games and services.

Stay tuned for our full interview with Atindriya Bose in the coming days.
