Last we heard of sales figures for the PS4 and the Nintendo Switch from Sony and Nintendo respectively, they were standing at worldwide figures of 86 million units shipped for the PS4 and nearly 23 million units sold for the Switch. That was at the beginning of the financial year’s third quarter in October, and it seems the Holiday season has seen some impressive sales for both. Walmart Canada’s senior gaming, tech, and media editor, who goes by The Hunter on Twitter, has reported updated figures for both systems.
According to the report, the PS5 has now crossed the 90 million units mark in terms of worldwide shipments, while the Switch has now sold in excess of 25 million. It’s worth noting that these aren’t official figures provided by Nintendo or Sony, but given how strongly both systems (and the Xbox One too, for that matter) performed during the Holiday season, those figures seem completely within the realm of possibility.
It shouldn’t be long now before both Sony and Nintendo release their quarterly reports from October to December, so we’ll have updated figures soon, and should find out one way or another how accurate these numbers are. Stay tuned for more updates.
