Sony has revealed that their next-gen system is not a successor to the PS3 but an addition to the family.
That makes sense considering there’s no backward compatibility and you kind of need the system to play PS3 games.
While most gamers will be casting aside or trading in their PS3s when the PS4 does launch at the end of this year, Sony doesn’t consider its next-gen console a complete replacement to the current gen.
“PS4, an addition to the PS family, like PSP and PS Vita, will offer a completely new gaming experience,” said Sony’s Middle East general manage, Fisser.
He added that the “PS4 will be released in at least one region across the world during the Western holiday season this year.”
By one region he probably means US or Japan, since EU and PAL regions have to wait a bit before getting their hands on the system. Sony has to treat the market with more respect since it’s something that has supported the PS brand.
