Surprise, surprise.

June was a pretty dull month for game releases (aside from Mirror’s Edge Catalyst and Inside) but that hasn’t stopped Sony’s PlayStation 4 from selling like hot cakes.

According to the NPD Group’s report for June 2016 and direct confirmation to GamesBeat by Sony, the PlayStation 4 outsold its competition at retailers in the United States throughout the month. Sales figures weren’t exactly revealed but it is well known that the PS4 has crossed 40 million units sold worldwide as of May.

Despite the distinct lack of games, August looks like it could be busier for PS4 players – No Man’s Sky will be arriving on August 9th for the console and PC following its delay from June. How will that influence the success of the console, especially since it’s not heading to Xbox One? We’ll find out in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, tell us your thoughts on the PS4’s continued success in the comments.
