PS4 System Update 4.72 Is Now Available, Does A Whole Lot Of Nothing

PS4 system update 4.72 has been released and it… does exactly what these point version updates do for the PS4 (or really, any other system in general). That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, it’s a stability update! Or, in Sony’s new parlance, a ‘system performance quality improvement’ update, but hey.

Given that any changes it makes are smaller, behind the scenes ones, it doesn’t weigh a whole lot- 340.6 MB total is it. It’s probably going to auto download, so go ahead and install it. The previous incremental upgrade didn’t lock system online features behind the update, so this one is unlikely to as well- but there’s no harm in updating anyway.

For now, we must wait for the next major PS4 update (presumably PS4 5.0), which will, of the last few years are any indication, be released in Fall of this year. What will it bring to the table? I just hope username changes are allowed at last…
