Unlike Microsoft, Sony is more secretive regarding its technology updates for the PlayStation 4. There have been times where they have released general information via events such as Game Developers Conference or maybe through developer panels such as the one Naughty Dog conducted during the PlayStation Experience, but much of their important details on the PS4’s API, tools development and optimization are fairly unknown.

This may not be a bad thing as Sony might have decided to take a ‘less talk, more action’ approach, but you can be rest assured that PlayStation and their famed ICE team have been pushing the platform to its absolute limits. In an interview with GamingBolt, Alex Golebiowski of PixelNAUTS, the developers of Lost Orbit echoed the same thing.

“PS4 has been great to work with and like all previous consoles it will only get better with time,” Alex said to GamingBolt. “Sony will keep updating and optimizing their tools and devs will get better at pushing the hardware to new limits. Our experience so far has been pretty smooth and painless.”

We can already see games like The Order: 1886 diminishing the gap between real time gameplay and CG visuals. This is simply phenomenal given that we are only just over a year into the life cycle of the PlayStation 4. It will be an interesting couple of years ahead for the PlayStation 4 as developers will try and squeeze every bit out of the hardware. Let us hope that along with graphics we will see innovations in gameplay department as well.
