P.O.L.L.E.N. 1

P•O•L•L•E•N is a brand new upcoming first person science fiction adventure game, coming to virtual reality headsets in 2016 (although a version of the game will also be developed for traditional flatscreen monitors). The game looks gorgeous, and will doubtless be an attraction for VR gaming once it does come out.

“The gameplay will not take camera control away from you, use jump scares, have frame drops or any other clear discomforts of VR…except where its intentional like the drunk mode,” the developers said, drawing a line between their game and most of the rest of the software that has been announced for VR headsets so far. “The best movement type in VR for you can be chosen from the different movement modes (regular, comfort, 25 degree jumping etc.) and multiple tweaks are available from head bob to gamepad acceleration. Pollen is one of the best (if not the best) VR first person movement game that you will find,” the developers enthuse.

“Although fantastic in virtual reality, the use of a headset is optional. Players without VR devices will receive the full, uncompromised gameplay experience as well,” they add, assuring that the mass market, which may not be interested in VR, does not lose interest in the game- although I am not quite sure how the game can remain uncompromised if it is being built around VR.

We’ll find out next year. For now, check out the trailer for the game below:
