Red Dead Redemption 1 Seemingly Added to Steam Backend, Hinting at Imminent PC Release

Evidence continues to mount that Rockstar's acclaimed 2010 open world Western could finally be making its way to PC.

Red Dead Redemption - PS4_02

Nearly a decade and a half on from launch, the original Red Dead Redemption remains as elusive as ever on PC, having skipped the platform even when it saw its re-release for PS4 and Switch last year, though evidence continues to mount that that might change sooner rather than later.

Spotted by prominent Rockstar insider Tez2 on Twitter, a recently released update for the Rockstar Launcher seemingly included metadata for an unannounced PC version of Red Dead Redemption. In fact, the game also appears to have been added to the Steam backend, suggesting an announcement could be imminent.

Interestingly, new (but empty) configuration folders for a “Gen 9” Grand Theft Auto 5 update are included with the update as well, potentially indicating that Rockstar could be preparing to bring the enhancements and features included in the game’s PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions to PC.

Last month, brief details of a PC version of Red Dead Redemption emerged, bizarrely enough, on the PlayStation Store, before being quickly removed. Prior to that, earlier in the year, a marketing blurb for the 2010 title’s PC port was also spotted in Rockstar Launcher files. Read more on that through here.
