While going from a martial arts beat ’em up in Sifu to a competitive football title may appear odd, Sloclap’s Rematch has been showing some serious potential. The last open beta peaked at 133,838 concurrent Steam players last month, and impressions have been positive.

Of course, it wouldn’t be soccer or football without some professional players lending their likenesses. Sloclap has confirmed in a press release that legends Ronaldo “Ronaldinho” de Assis Moreira, Marc-André ter Stegen and Kobbie Mainoo will be playable. Check out the behind-the-scenes development video to see Ronaldinho giving his take on the animation work.

Rematch launches on June 19th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. However, another beta begins on May 28th at 5 AM PDT and lasts for 72 hours on all platforms. The developer also confirmed nearly 2.5 million sign-ups for the same, so it should be interesting to see if this news leads to a higher player count.

The legends in question won’t be playable in the beta but available at launch (with more planned for later). Stay tuned for more details and updates.
