Remnant 2 releases worldwide on July 25th, but early access is available for those who purchased the Ultimate Edition. Unfortunately, some players on PC are reporting issues with the performance. Gunfire Games provided some fixes in a new Reddit post and promised more performance updates after launch.

However, it also clarified, “For the sake of transparency, we designed the game with upscaling in mind (DLSS/FSR/XeSS). So, if you leave the Upscaling settings as they are (you can hit ‘reset defaults’ to get them back to normal), you should have the smoothest gameplay.” Otherwise, toning down the Shadow Settings will make the biggest difference.

Upscaling has been a bit controversial as of late, with some believing it’s a way for developers to skip out on optimization. Regardless, the performance issues don’t seem to be universal. As the Gunfire Games noted, issues “Out of Memory when Loading” seem to occur more on the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 and Intel Core i9-13900k CPUs.

Running the game in Windows 8 Compatibility Mode, lowering the graphics settings, exiting, loading it again normally, and then reverting the graphics to normal seems to work. Disabling overclocking also seems to help.

Check out the thread for more details on other fixes. Remnant 2 is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. You can read our review here in the meantime.
