In anticipation of the widely anticipated release of the upcoming remake of Resident Evil 2, Capcom recently released an unconventional demo of the game for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The 1-Shot demo is a thirty minute long ordeal where you’re free to explore the Raccoon City Police Department HQ as you see fit, go where you want, do what you want (within the framework of the demo, that is), and die however many times you want- but once your allotted time of 30 minutes is over, the demo is over, and you’re locked out of it.
It’s a good bite sized section of the game to dip your toes into as you wait for the full release of the game- and apparently, a lot of people have done just that. Capcom have put up an official stats tracking page for Resident Evil 2 on the game’s website, which reveals that since the demo went live a couple days ago, over 1.1 million people have downloaded and played the demo across all platforms (at the time of writing, at the very least- that number’s bound to go only higher). What’s interesting is that only 29 per cent of that total, which amounts to a little over 320,000 people, have completed the demo.
Given the demo’s nature and the short time it gives you to experience it, it makes sense that a lot of people will be more concerned with exploring the environment and/or finding secrets thoroughly, rather than looking to see the demo to completion, so that figure makes sense. The stats tracking page also reveals that the demo has been played in Japan and North America the most, and has also seen plenty of activity in other regions like Europe and South America- seems like a fairly even spread. Meanwhile, once the game is out, players who have RE.net settings enabled on their game will be able to track other stats as well, such as their total playtime, completion percentage, and more- so be sure to keep an eye on the page.
Resident Evil 2 launches in full for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on January 25. The game’s fill Trophy and Achievement list was recently leaked- take a look through here.
