While there has been plenty of discussion in Capcom’s headquarters about sales for Resident Evil 7 being less than impressive, the latest NPD report says that the game was the best selling title in January. In total, software sales for the month were up more than 14 percent to $313 million and the jump in software sales can be traced directly to the newest horror game.

“With only five days in the market, Resident Evil 7 was the best-selling game in January,” said NPD analyst Sam Naji. “The last time Capcom had the best-selling game of the month (in dollar sales) was in March 2009 with Resident Evil 5.”

Resident Evil 8 was far from the only game to see success in January. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Overwatch both managed to make runs towards the top of the list, despite being out on the market for quite a while.
