Capcom will be announcing the seventh entry in their flagship Resident Evil franchise at E3 this year, according to Dr. Serkan Toto, CEO of Tokyo-based consultancy firm Kantan Games. The new game will be a clean slate from the franchise, meaning it is being treated as a sort of reboot- this should allow Capcom to return to the series’ traditional survival horror roots, as opposed to the action game direction that the franchise has been taking of late, owing to the escalation of the series’ central conflict in the story.
According to Toto, Capcom have hired for this new game one Jordan Amaro, a designer who previously worked on Metal Gear Solid 5 and P. T. at Kojima Productions- which bodes well for this new game, it has to be said.
Of course, while Toto’s track record is immaculate, and one can expect to put stock in this announcement, it is still best to treat this as a rumor or as speculation until the official announcement is made- hopefully at E3 next month.
1) About Resident Evil 7: Yes, it's in development. The entire game will go back to RE's horror roots and (essentially) be a clean slate.
