Resistance: Fall of Man was really good

The good old days

If a game is good, then it stands to rights that its sequel is likely to follow suit. The original Resistance was one such game that really hit the spot when it launched alongside the PS3 in 2006. It was easily the best launch title for the system, and offered an enjoyable campaign with a varied suite of multiplayer modes. Throw in the free online play that has been a Sony trump card for the duration of this console generation, and you have a real system defining title.

Resistance 2 was also good

Don't believe the detractors, Resistance 2 had some great moments

If two games are good, then it stands to rights that the third is likely to follow suit. Granted, some fans were unhappy with the direction Insomniac took with Resistance 2 but, despite a few cuts here and there, everything about the game was bigger, better and more polished. I know you were angry about the lack of split-screen co-op, we all were. That doesn’t change the fact though that Resistance 2 was a lot of fun and, if Resistance 3 manages to follow through on its promises and fix these areas of complaint, then you have every reason to start getting excited about it.

Cool new weapon designs

Going back to the old school

A spike grenade made out of a tin can you say? Indeed, the world of Resistance 3 seems like a very different beast than what we’re used to. With humanity now pushed to the brink of extinction, survivors must create weapons out of what few resources are left. It may not be the most original spin on a post-apocalyptic world, but it sure does sound intriguing.

Returning mechanics

Remeber this?

Sometimes the old ways are the best, and Insomniac seem to be aware of this particular point. Resistance 2 received a fairly vicious backlash from certain fans for its needless adoption and change of various game mechanics. Well the fat has now been trimmed it seems, with Resistance 3 bringing back the weapon wheel and health system from Resistance: Fall of man. Happy now?
