Microsoft and EA hedged a lot of their early bets on Titanfall. The debut game by Respawn Entertainment had a whole lot going for it, and it was a lot of fun, but it ultimately failed to have the desired effect- for Microsoft, Titanfall did not ignite Xbox One sales like they wanted to (heck, Mario Kart 8 almost certainly helped Wii U more than Titanfall helped Xbox One), and for EA, the limitations imposed upon the game’s sales by the low Xbox One install base meant that the game did not catch on and become the de facto console multiplayer shooter like they had hoped.
So there have been a lot of rumors for a while now that at least the Titanfall sequel (and at most, even the first game) will land on the PS4, and now, a Wall Street Journal report seems to have joined in on that speculation.
The report cites a source ‘close to the development of the game,’ and states that the sequel’s PS4 version is in the planning stages.
For Microsoft, this would be a loss, as they would lose an exclusive by association; nonetheless, as their excellent E3 showing today demonstrated, at the very least they have other exclusive content to cover for any gaps in their lineup that Titanfall would leave
