Sea of Thieves Is Rare’s Fastest Selling Game Ever

Rare's got a lot of pirate booty to bury this month.

Pirate multiplayer epic Sea of Thieves is now officially the fastest selling title under the belt of Rare of all time, at least since the NPD came into existence. The sales tracking firm announced that Sea of Thieves plundered a whole lot of booty for the storied developer in a very short time.

According to NPD, Sea of Thieves managed to be the second best selling game in March and eight of the entire year so far. Analyst Mat Piscatella would state that this was the highest launch month sales for Rare since NPD began tracking games in 1995. This does cut off some of their earlier Superhits like Donkey Kong Country from consideration, but that still makes Sea of Thieves the biggest hit for the British developer in a very long time.

These figures do include both physical and digital sales, but not those renting the game through Xbox Games Pass.
