Rare’s Sea of Thieves is out later this month for PlayStation 5, and it’s released a new blog post detailing everything they need to know before hoisting the sales. A Microsoft account is required, but existing players can transfer and share progress across all platforms.
PS5 players will require PlayStation Plus for online multiplayer, but it won’t be necessary when playing solo in Safer Seas. Rare emphasizes that the mode isn’t offline, and while co-op is supported, not having PS Plus means you can’t invite friends or join other players. If PvP, some World Events and Athena’s Fortune Trading Company aren’t necessary, then you can do without it.
Finally, though cross-platform play is supported, there are PlayStation-exclusive servers. You can also opt to play only with other controller users, which means playing alongside Xbox players. Since the player pool is growing, Rare is looking into the return of six ships per server, but nothing is confirmed.
Sea of Thieves launches on April 30th for PS5, but those who purchased the Premium Edition can start playing on April 25th. Head here for more details on the title.
