Until not too long ago, it would have been difficult to imagine Microsoft releasing a major first-party Xbox game like Sea of Thieves on PlayStation, but now, not only is Rare’s multiplayer pirate game available on the PS5, it’s also consistently thriving.
As per charts recently published by Sony on the PlayStation Blog, Sea of Thieves was the most downloaded game on the PS5 in both the Europe and US/Canada charts. The month prior, the game topped the charts in Europe, while coming in at No. 3 in the US/Canada charts.
Interestingly, the most downloaded game on the PlayStation 4 in both regions – Minecraft – was also a Microsoft-published title, so clearly the company is enjoying plenty of success on Sony’s platforms.
Recently, Xbox boss Phil Spencer confirmed that Microsoft intends to continue releasing more games for non-Xbox consoles. Currently, the company has two upcoming multiplatform releases officially announced in the form of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which launches this October, and DOOM: The Dark Ages, which releases next year.
