Microsoft has stated that, had it acquired Sega like it had earlier planned to, it would have kept the company’s games multi-platform. According to IGN, Microsoft’s plans for Sega would work under a few operating principles, which included developing games for all platforms, including Android, iOS, PlayStation, Steam, Switch, Windows, and Xbox.

The company also planned to bring Sega titles exclusive to PlayStation and Nintendo to Xbox as well, and see future games released on Xbox alongside other releases. The final operating principle revolves around bringing the company’s games to PC and Xbox Game Pass on a day-and-date basis for future releases.

These details came about as part of a strategy document released during the ongoing trial between the US Federal Trade Commission and Microsoft, with the former looking to stop the latter’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Internal documents released earlier during the trial had revealed that Microsoft was looking at purchasing Sega, among many other developers.

The acquisition of Sega would have served to help full out offerings on PC and Xbox Game Pass, notably in regions like Asia, where games need to be localised to more languages.
