If ever there was a generation of consoles that was disappointing and underwhelming from a hardware perspective, this one is probably it. The PS4 and the Xbox One were moderately powerful back in 2013, but as time has gone on, they have continued to get hilariously outpaced by gaming PCs, which have continued to pull ahead.
Which is why the PS4 NEO and the Xbox One Scorpio are generating so much excitement- here is a chance for both the consoles to have their hardware refreshed, and for them to actually have some high end hardware again. The evidence of this will probably be in the games.
Speaking to Tadeusz Zielinski of Flying Wild Hog, the developers of the upcoming Shadow Warrior 2, GamingBolt had the chance to ask him what resolutions the developer would be targeting for the console versions of the upcoming game- and he made it clear that the PS4 and Xbox One versions would run at 30fps and 1080p, but also that that might change for the Xbox One Scorpio and the PS4 NEO.
“We are aiming for 30fps 1080p. Both consoles. It will probably change on Neo/Scorpio,” he said.
One statement, but both those notions – of the current consoles being weak, and of the NEO and Scorpio modernizing them a bit – validated. Let’s hope the Scorpio and NEO are all that they are being cracked up to be.
