For a long time after announcing the game, Atlus said absolutely nothing about Shin Megami Tensei 5but now, over four years on from when it was first revealed, the RPG is right around the corner. As its launch approaches, reviews for the game are, of course, expected to drop in the near future. In fact, the first review has arrived already, courtesy of Japanese outlet Famitsu (via Ryokutya2089).

Each of the outlet’s four reviewers awarded the game a score of 9/10, for a collective score of 36/40. Various aspects of the experience have drawn praise, including its challenging encounters, the mechanical depth of its combat, the post-apocalyptic Tokyo setting, engaging exploration, and more. As per the review, Shin Megami Tensei 5’s main story will require 50 hours to complete, while getting 100% completion will require closer to 100 hours.

One review isn’t indicative of the overall reception the game will see, of course, but it is encouraging to see praise for the game right out the gate. Here’s hoping that continues.

Shin Megami Tensei 5 is out on November 11 for Nintendo Switch.
