The wait for Shin Megami Tensei 5 has been a long and torturous one, thanks mostly to the years of complete silence from Atlus that followed the game’s initial announcement. At yesterday’s E3 2021 Nintendo Direct, however, Atlus confirmed that the RPG is indeed launching this year, while even providing a specific release date for it. Soon afterward, we also got to see plenty of new gameplay footage at the Treehouse livestream.

There’s nearly twenty minutes of gameplay footage here, and it’s quite packed. Combat is shown off, and the mechanics will be familiar to anyone who’s played Shin Megami Tensei (or even Persona) before, with a focus on turn-based commands and finding elemental weaknesses in enemies. Exploration in a rather grim looking post-apocalyptic location is also shown off, while we also get to see demon negotiations in action. Take a look at it all below.

Shin Megami Tensei 5 is out exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on November 12.
