Along with an updated release date and a new combat overview trailer, SloClap’s Sifu has received a new trailer detailing the game’s aging and death mechanics. Players armed with a magical pendant which can be used to resurrect a number of times. However, doing so will cause the player to age.

Each a time the player ages, their damage is increased while overall health is decreased. At the resurrection screen, it’s also possible to unlock new skills to gain an edge. Each death increases the number of years aged and upon dying the final time, that’s it for the current “run.” Players must seemingly start from the beginning but armed with whatever knowledge accrued – this is represented on a whiteboard with details about hidden weapons, shortcuts and so on.

It’s somewhat akin to Deathloop, except it’s possible to take down all of your targets if you’re good enough. Sifu releases on February 8th 2022 for PS4, PS5 and PC so we’ll see just how well its gameplay loop works. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
