Slay the Spire 2

Mega Crit’s Slay the Spire 2 has officially entered early access, and it’s already a bigger success than its predecessor. In less than two hours, the rogue-lite deck-builder has peaked at 156,584 concurrent players on Steam. That’s right – it hasn’t even been a full day of launch, and the scary part is that it’s still rising.

Comparatively, the original Slay the Spire peaked at 57,025, which was last December when the first gameplay footage of the sequel debuted. Granted, when it first debuted in early access, the IP was practically unknown, resulting in a very low peak concurrent count. Positive word of mouth ultimately led it to over 1.5 million sales shortly after its 1.0 launch.

As for Slay the Spire 2, it’s currently only available for PC, and while it’s estimated to stay in early access for one or two years, Mega Crit is more committed to ensuring it “feels great.” Set 1,000 years later, the story sees the Spire reawakening and presenting even more challenges and terrors. You can control five different characters – with the Ironclad, Silent and Defect returning from the first game.

Besides offering new cards, Relics, and whatnot, this marks the debut of co-op for the series (complete with accompanying cards). Four players can team together to tackle the Spire and succeed or die trying.
