“It’s not a new Star Wars game at all.”

John Smedley, the boss of Sony Online Entertainment, in a recent Reddit AMAA (Ask Me Almost Anything) event responded to several Reddit users who had heard the rumor that Sony Online Entertainment’s upcoming unannounced MMO would be set in the Star Wars Galaxy universe. According to Smedley, these rumors are false.

Smedley wrote that the pocking MMO will be “a completely new IP.” He also added that once the game was launched, Star Wars Galaxies players could “come home now.” He went on to write that if given an opportunity to do any game in SOE’s library differently, he would chose Star Wars Galaxies. This comment has sparked rumors that, despite this new IP not being Star Wars Galaxies related, there may be a SWG reboot in the future.

In a final attempt to clear up any remaining confusion, Smedley took to his Twitter account after his AMAA session to post this final message to SWG hopefuls: “We have a new game that I think SWG vets will like,” he said. “It’s not a new Star Wars game at all.”
