Sonic Frontiers – Sega is Hoping for High Review Scores and Sales

Sonic the Hedgehog’s trajectory has been inconsistent over the years, to say the very least, and especially when it comes to mainline 3D platformers, the franchise hasn’t exactly had the best track record. With Sonic Frontiers launching later this year, however, and promising the next big step forward for the franchise with its open world 3D offerings, series fans are hopeful the iconic hedgehog will be back with a bang soon.

And that’s certainly what Sega is hoping for as well. Speaking during a recent Q&A session with investors (via VGC), the company said that it is targeting high review scores for Sonic Frontiers, and is hoping that that, in turn, will help the game hit high sales numbers, especially during the Holiday season.

“We have set internal targets, as the correlation between the scores of external evaluation organizations and sales is high in Europe and North America,” the company said. “If the game gets a high score, it can become a must-buy game, and possibly generate synergy with sales, so we are currently working hard to improve the quality of the game toward its sales for the holiday season.”

Of course, a company wanting its game to do well commercially and critically isn’t exactly the most surprising thing in the world. It doesn’t come as much of a surprise either, given Sega’s past comments about the game. In fact, Sonic Frontiers was originally supposed to launch in 2021, but Sega ended up internally delaying it so they could improve it and polish it further.

Sonic Frontiers is targeting a Holiday 2022 launch for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
