Sonic Mania looks to be glorious- a modern age 16-bit Sonic game, with the right controls, right physics, right artstyle and graphics, right everything. After their mistake with Sonic the Hedgehog 4, which was supposed to be a similar modern age reimagining of Sonic (but which failed at its job), Sonic Mania looks to, at last, get it right.
Sega is going with the modern retro game angle for all that they can, too. Sega released some new official artwork for the game, which is gloriously retro- this is something that would not have been out of place in the early 1990s, back when the Genesis and Super Nintendo were battling it out for supremacy in the console market. You can check out this beautiful piece of artwork below.
Sonic Mania will launch on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC this Summer, after a delay from its originally announced Spring release date.
