Sons of the Forest Guide – All Tools and Their Locations

You’ll require a variety of dependable tools to aid you in gathering, crafting, building, exploring, and ultimately surviving in Sons of the Forest. Certain tools, such as Axes, have multiple functions like chopping trees and obstacles, whereas others may be more focused in their utility. For example, the Shovel helps with unearthing valuable items, and using the Rebreather or Zipline Rope Gun can enable you to reach previously inaccessible areas. You’ll be crippled without the tools, so we’ve created this guide to help you find them ASAP.

All Tools and their Locations in Sons of the Forest

1. Binoculars

Function – Lets you spot things from a long distance away.

Location – Head to the beach in the northwest. You’ll find it close to 2 orange life vests, 2 red kayaks and 2 supply crates.

2. Chainsaw

Function – Mow down both the trees and enemies. However, you’ll require batteries to power the machine.

Location – You’ll need the Maintenance Keycard to pass through the security doors. Once you have it, head towards the westmost 3D printer. It shares the cave entrance with the Recreational Bunker. The machine is located in the bunker.

3. Can Opener

Function – Combine with canned food to create consumable cat food.

Location – Located just outside the snowy mountain cave entrance. There are two broken sleds close to a frozen pond and two red tents near the mountain wall. The can opened is located between the two.

4. Firefighter Axe

Function – The axe is slow but reliable as it doesn’t rely on batteries to deliver damage. You can chop down both enemies and trees with this item.

Location – You’ll need a shovel to recover this item. Head towards the green circle on your GPS locator. It’s a bit northwest of the snowy mountain.

5. Flare

Function – Acts as a light source. You can even throw it some distance to light up the area.

Location – You can find it by opening orange cases.

6. Flashlight

Function – A better light source that massively increases visibility during darkness.

Location – Head towards the snowy mountain and keep following the purple exclamation marker on your GPS tracker.

7. GPS Locator

Function – Mark locations on the GPS tracker.

Location – Follow the purple exclamation marker on your GPS tracker. It’s located near a snowy mountain. You’ll find the item on a body that’s suspended on a rope. Either cut the rope or shoot it to drop the body and recover the item.

8. GPS Tracker

Function – Shows your location on the map. You can also use it to track items (Markers), Points of Interest, and other AI companions.

Location – Open the emergency in your inventory to get the GPS tracker.

9. Guide Book

Function – Lists all building instructions.

Location – Open the emergency in your inventory to get the Guide Book.

10. Lighter

Function – The item can act as a source of light in dark areas. It can also be used to highlight the body paint of cannibals at night and can be used to light fires and Molotovs.

Location – Open the emergency in your inventory to get the Lighter.

11. Modern Axe

Function – It’s an upgraded version of the firefighter axe and can efficiently cut down both enemies and trees.

Location – Head to the campsite with the three black tents and a stereo system. You can find the axe lodged within a camper’s torso.

12. Rebreather

Function – You’ll need the shovel to get to the rebreather, and it needs to be filled with Air Tanks. It lets you remain submerged for longer periods of time. You can now access new areas that were previously blocked off.

Location – It’s located deep within the dark cave alongside the northern coastline.

13. Repair Tool

Function – You can repair structures with this item.

Location – You’ll have to craft it using 1x Rock, 1x Stick and 1x Rope.

14. Rope Gun

Function – The Rope Gun unlocks ziplines that also grant access to new regions. You’ll need the rope gun to find the shovel.

Location – Finding the item isn’t easy, as it’s located deep within a cave infested with cannibals, towards the western side of the map.

15. Shovel

Function – Used to dig up graves containing several upgrades and goodies.

Location – The shovel is also located deep within a cave system on the western side of the map.

16. Tactical Axe

Function – You can use it to destroy obstacles and gather resources.

Location – Open the emergency in your inventory to get the Tactical Axe.

17. Utility Knife

Function – You can use it to craft and harvest animal meat.

Location – Open the emergency in your inventory to get the Utility Knife.
