Sons of the Forest Guide – How to Get a Shovel

The Shovel is one of the many important things you need to survive in Sons of the Forest. You can use it to find other cool stuff like GPS Locators, a Shotgun, and other helpful things. But it won’t be a piece of cake to get the Shovel because it’s buried deep inside a cave on the western side of the map, and you’ll learn how to find it in this guide.

But hold up, you got to first get two important tools – the Zipline Rope Gun and the Rebreather – before you can even try to get the Shovel. So, here’s the lowdown on how to find the Shovel in Sons of the Forest.

How to find the Shovel in Sons of the Forest

• The Shovel is located in a cave towards the west side of the map, just before the snowy mountains.

• You can identify it quite easily as there are three workers impaled pikes just outside of the entrance. However, before entering the cave, head up to the middle individual, and search him to find a slingshot. It’ll offer you some protection if you encounter any enemies.

• Use the slingshot to break the boards and enter the cave.

After entering the Cave

• Stock up on foods, meds and energy drinks, moderate armor and a decent weapon before entering the cave. It’s filled with enemies. We’ve tried to ignore them as much as possible, but sometimes there is no going around and you’ll have to face them head on.

• As soon as you enter, you’ll only see a steep cliff that leads to a small body of water filled with skeletons. Jump down there to grab some loot, including an Air Tank.

• After getting the loot, climb out of the pit and look up. You’ll notice a rope with some cloth hanging from it. Grab the cloth and then use the Zipline Rope Gun to travel to the next location.

• Once you drop down in this section, head towards the right and gather some resources like booze, tape, and meds. Then, on the left side, dive into the water and swim straight down to find the tunnel that leads you to the next cave area.

• Just keep swimming downwards until you can’t go any further, and then turn around to follow the underwater tunnel. This will lead you to the next section of the cave, but watch out because there are some cannibals there who will attack you as soon as you get out of the water.

• As you follow the path, make sure to grab all the items along the way like a Wetsuit, Air Tank, and ammo that’s lying next to the rocks on the right. You’ll encounter a few more cannibals on your way before reaching a slope. Slide down once you reach the peak.

• You’ll reach the next room at the end of the slide. As soon as you land in the water, turn around and head towards the region that’s lit up. The location will be filled with cases containing numerous resources. It’s a mini jackpot so gather as much as you can carry. After you’re done, head towards the room containing the bodies of the workers. It should be illuminated by a small light.

• There are more resources in this room alongside some cannibals. If you want the resources, you’ll have to fight the deranged people for it. Once you’re done collecting, head towards the second light at the very back of the room. Pass through the tunnel to continue your journey towards getting the shovel. As you’re traveling, you’ll reach a blogger room, with a shining light at the very back. Move towards it and interact with it to pick up the Flashlight attachment.

• Close to the body and the second light there’ll be a case of grenades. Make sure to pick them up as you’ll need them to exit the cave. You can ignore the box if you have some in store, but it’s always good to have extra explosives on you for emergencies. Now go left past the cannibals and the two lights into the next area.

• After reaching the mutant babies, you’ll come across some water that you’ll have to dive into in order to reach the next area of the cave. Maintain caution, as cannibals will pounce on you as soon as you surface from beneath the water.

• Just follow the path, and when the tunnel starts to widen, head towards the right. You’ll see a light in the distance, but be careful because this room is filled with danger. If you want to avoid a fight, you can run towards the light and grab the shovel.

• Just beside the light, there’ll be a body of the worker lying with the almighty Shovel. Grab it and you can exit the cave.

• At some point, you’ll hear a loud mutant breaking through one of the tunnels you ran through earlier. This is when you’ll need the Grenades (or any other explosive). Toss it at the mutant, and then continue along the path to reach the exit of the cave. This will lead you to a different part of the forest than the one you entered this cave system from.
