Sony Collaborating With From Software On First Party JRPG For PS4- Report

What would a From Software JRPG look like?

Although Sony Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida recently insisted that Sony is not working on a first party JRPG for the PlayStation 4, Sony insider Verundus said on NeoGAF that public statements such as these are not necessarily reflective of what is actually going on behind the scenes- he says that a brand new PlayStation 4 exclusive first party JRPG is coming. And more importantly, that it is being worked on by From Software, the very same folks who brought us the PlayStation 4 exclusive, excellent Bloodborne earlier in the year.

“Next [From Software] exclusive for PS4 currently in development is a Sony published first party title, like Bloodborne, and is a JRPG,” he said. “There is another project in development in a similar context which is also a JRPG, and is going to be a Sony published title aka first party. Beyond that, I don’t want to delve into anything but it honestly only takes a little common sense to realise that Shu isn’t going to tell you what anyone’s up to because you happen to ask him a question. Nothing exists until it’s officially time for it to exist.”

Of course, what he says sounds believable- why would Yoshida reveal a project in development before it is time for it to be revealed, particularly in a Twitter AMA? On the other hand, it is also entirely possible that Verundus is just trying to cover his own bases here, particularly since NeoGAF is pretty hard on ‘insiders’ with false information.

Personally, I will hope for the former, and expect the latter.
