PlayStation Mobile, for those of you who might have forgotten, was the backend development infrastructure, and frontend storefront, for independent and major game developers to bring games that they develop for Android devices on to Sony’s PlayStation Vita portable. It was meant to usher in an era of glorious cross platform game support for the Vita and, alongside the promised major first and third party support, make it the one stop for all of your portable gaming needs, but of course, none of that ever panned out.

And now it never will- later this year, Sony will be ending support for PlayStation Mobile, they have confirmed. Specifically on September 10, the entire service will come to an end. games distribution ends in July. The Android app will also be inaccessible after this date.

So… yeah. Another PS Vita initiative bites the dust. Between this, the Maps app, the Near app, and YouTube, Sony really are leaving the Vita out to die, aren’t they?
