Sony Exec on PS4: 4K Content May Happen In The Future, No PlayTV on PS4 For Now

The good old response.

Andy House, Sony president, introducing PS4

Sony Computer Entertainment president and group CEO Andy House has a lot to say about the PS4 in an interview with Business Spectator. But two important points that caught our eyes were about 4K content and PlayTV support for the PS4.

Andy House does not rule out the possibility of seeing 4K content on the PS4 but he is unsure of whether the console will see native Ultra HD games.

The PS3 had a TV Tuner service called as PlayTV but apparently it won’t be happening on the PS4 for now.

“While PlayTV was certainly successful in certain markets, I’m not sure that it saw enough of an uptake to say that it’s a mandatory thing that we want to have in all of our devices,” House says.

“We haven’t ruled it out, but it’s highly dependent on the broadcast TV market and also user preferences. There are lots of alternatives in terms of devices that carry a TV tuner.”
