Sony: Move Has Been Priced To Maximise Profit

Posted By | On 09th, Jul. 2010

Apparently, Sony is still trying to recover from the heavy losses that its gaming department was posting until just about a week ago. That, according to Sony reps, would justify the PS Move’s high launch price (the total set is in excess of $120): Sony is now looking to turn a profit on the accessory from the launch itself.

Says  Shuhei Yoshida, who told Develop: “We are pricing Move as if we are launching a new platform.

“So because the install base of Move will help third party studios create games for it, we benefit by helping those third-parties. But we are not losing money with each one we sell.”

While I don’t doubt a lot of investment has gone, and will go, into the Move and Kinect, I can’t help but feel that the two will bomb. Badly.
