While Sony still has quite a few big plans for the PS4, the company has recently hit a milestone that it can certainly be proud of, especially since that milestone is being achieved in its own back yard. The company announced it had just recently topped the 2 million units sold mark in Japan. There are a number of reasons the company can point to as to why it might be able to get this mark, though a price drop starting on October 1 has seemingly boosted the sales rate in the company’s home country.

While Sony is not actually releasing these numbers, DualShockers was able to put them together by using new numbers from Media Create and other historical sales numbers. With the Holiday season just getting started, it’s a safe bet Sony is looking to pad those numbers and start the very real march towards selling more than three million PS4 units in Japan. The number comes out to be 2,005,949 in its country of origin.

It seems likely the firm will be able to seize on that momentum at least a little bit and keep the train moving considering the number of games that are hitting store shelves in this season.
