Sony has released two new videos to show off what is admittedly some very impressive augmented reality technology, which they intent to introduce to the PS4 at the Nico Nico Chokaigi 3 event. The two videos, titled “PS4 AR Fluid Simulation” and “PS4 Dynamic Lighting” delve on different aspects and techniques that Sony have used to make augmented reality feel more organic than what we know it to be today.
Built by the Lab Mirai Research Division, Sony’s tech is able to recognize actual sources of light, and it can also correctly simulate fluids. This means that AR projections can now have their own shadows. Sony boasts that the models, thanks to their AR engine, won’t look superimposed anymore; rather, they will look like they belong in the environments, as if they naturally blend in.
Sony is also planning to show off some pretty impressive AR stuff for the PS Vita at the Nico Nico Chokaigi event. We’ll follow it, so stay tuned and watch this space for more updates.
In the meantime, take a look at the videos embedded above. They might pique your interest.
