You know one area where Sony and the PS4 have consistently lagged behind Microsoft and Xbox One, and even Nintendo and Wii U? In terms of actually following through with their initial promises for their console’s OS and delivering timely updates that add features to the console. Where Microsoft releases a major update every month, and Nintendo seems to release two major updates a year (with the most recent one having launched in May), Sony has basically failed to provide meaningful updates for its PS4 firmware so far.
However, Sony has now responded to angry fans flooding the PlayStation Blog demanding details on Sony’s plans for the PS4 OS, promising details on the new firmware update ‘soon.’ ‘More information will be coming shortly,’ said SCEE representative Fred Dutton.
Hopefully, soon means soon. The PS4 OS is shockingly barebones now, not only lagging behind the Xbox One and Wii U in many key areas, but also behind its own predecessor, the PS3.
