Thanks to its latest statements regarding Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Sony has revealed to the surprise of absolutely no one that the company has plans for a PlayStation 6 down the line.

While the company hasn’t revealed any official release year for the next system, it does get pretty close to giving us a decent enough idea.

In its statement, Sony revealed that Microsoft had offered it a deal to bring Call of Duty to PlayStation platforms until 2027. According to Sony, this cut off would preclude the next PlayStation from getting Call of Duty.

“By the time SIE launched the next generation of its PlayStation console (which is likely to occur around [REDCATED], it would have lost access to Call of Duty and other Activision titles, making it extremely vulnerable to consumer switching and subsequent degradation in its competitiveness,” said Sony in its statement.

This would mean that the next generation of PlayStation is likely planned for release well after 2027, indicating that Sony hopes for the PS5 to hang around for another 7-to-8-year cycle, much like the PS3 and PS4. This is of course in sharp contrast to older console generations, which typically only lasted for five years.

Other details revealed in Sony’s latest statements to UK’s regulatory body indicate that the new tiered PlayStation Plus subscriptions are far behind Xbox Game Pass, that Microsoft wants to turn Sony into Nintendo, and that Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard would lead to worse deals for developers and higher prices for players.
