Square Enix today announced that Space Invaders Infinity Gene is now available for download on the PlayStation Network for PlayStation 3 and on Xbox LIVE Arcade for Xbox 360.

Space Invaders, the game that defined video games for generations, is back with a new twist! The game starts off with the classic Space Invaders look, but as you rack up your score, it evolves. Unlock new stages, sounds, power ups, and new features. The game moves from fixed two-dimensional graphics to high-speed side-scrolling and gradually on into full 3D. Experience the outcome of decades of shooting game evolution in Space Invaders Infinity Gene.

Compete against other players from all around the world in real time with the appropriately named Real Time Rankings. While in traditional online rankings, players couldn’t view their rank until the game had ended, with Real Time Rankings, your rank is displayed on-screen while you play. Battle your way to the top against the world’s greatest players in the pinnacle of outer space shooting action!
