Spider-Man Director Is In “Awe” of Sony’s First Party

“I am so impressed.”

Sony’s first party is on fire right now. The publisher has been slowly building its in house portfolio of studios and franchises up over the last ten years, and we’ve been seeing the results of that on the PS4 for a few years now, with some of the generation’s best games, such as Bloodborne, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and God of War having come out of their studios as a result.

But it’s not just Sony’s fans or detractors who are taken aback by just how well they are doing on the first party front, either. In an interview with The Telegraph, Insomniac’s Creative Director Bryan Intihar expressed how he is in “awe” of Sony’s first party output, and how Insomniac is trying to match that level with the upcoming Spider-Man.

“We’ve worked with Sony for 20 plus years, right? As excited as I was to work with Marvel, I was just as excited to be working with Sony again. I am so impressed and in awe of what their first party studios do: look at Guerrilla, what they did with Horizon Zero Dawn. Obviously, Naughty Dog is in town and we have a long friendship with them. I am a gigantic God of War fan and I think what Cory Barlog and that team at Santa Monica are doing is amazing. And look at Sucker Punch and what they’re doing with their new IP.

“We are one piece of the juggernaut and I’m proud to be part of that juggernaut. For me we need to be at the quality and deliver at the level those other exclusive games have done.”

Spider-Man looks fantastic, and I expect it to be received as one of the better games Sony has put out this generation. It will become, as Intihar pointed out, yet another spoke in the wheel of Sony’s first party triumphs this generation when it launches this September, exclusively on the PS4.
