The multiplayer mode is back.

Ubisoft Toronto released a new teaser video, referring to it as a “puzzle” that finally gave way to reveal an announcement for the Spies vs Mercs mode on May 2nd.

Spies vs. Mercs has always been the Splinter Cell series’ way of handling multiplayer. Players can choose between two sides – a Spy group or cadre of Mercenaries – who must fulfill different objectives in the mode. Each has their own unique playing style and gadgets. Spies are more agile and can execute different acrobatic moves to access areas that the Mercs can’t.

Mercs, on the other hand, are more heavily armed. They can rappel down floors, sprint and even knock down and stun Spies with melee attacks. Their weapons are also more powerful, as they rely on assault rifles and grenade launchers to fight.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist is currently slated to release on August 20th in North America for Xbox 360, PC, Wii U and PS3.
