Over the last couple of years, in bits and pieces, slow yet surely, the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster collection has launched for a number of platforms, bringing modernized and updated versions of the first six Final Fantasy games to modern platforms. And in the wake of the critical and commercial success it has enjoyed, it seems Square Enix is considering similar pixel remasters for other older titles in its back catalog as well.
Recently during a Q&A session with shareholders (via VGC) when asked if Square Enix had plans for more pixel remasters after Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster’s success (with Xenogears in particular being named as an example by the person asking the question), a member of the company’s board said that while there were no specific details announced yet, Square Enix is “considering various ideas” on that front.
“We will refrain from sharing information about new titles, but we are considering various ideas within the company and hope that you will look forward to forthcoming announcements,” the board member said.
There will, of course, be no shortage of beloved older titles in Square Enix’s library of games that fans would love to see modernizations of, and with the company investing so heavily in both remasters and HD-2D remakes, there’s a good chance that several will be seeing the light of day in the coming years. Or one would hpe, at least.
In May, Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster had sold over 2 millon units worldwide across all platforms. Read more on that through here.
